The Internet, my boyfriend.

I love the Internet, really, I do, but lately I feel like all I do is live online (cough because I’m unemployed? cough) or when I’m not at a computer I’m found clutching my iPhone….

This coming Sunday at 5:00pm I leave for Melbourne. Things I’m doing online for that:

  • Job searching online
  • Apartment searching online
  • Running group searching online
  • Crossfit searching online
  • LinkedIn profile maintenance online
  • Plus Googling: International license / health insurance etc.

Then there are my emails, which I refresh a million times a day even though no one emails me.

  • Real life email
  • This blog email

And I can’t forget about mine and Internet’s love child, Social Media…

  • Tumblr
  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Pinterest
  • Dailymile
  • Google Analytics
  • Disques comments

The whole dating online thing too, which HOLY CRAP TAKES SO MUCH TIME

  • okCupid

And then there is my iPhone

  • Instagram
  • Lose It app

And the usual random sites I hit up

  • My blogroll
  • CNN
  • Toronto Star
  • Craft/Etsy
  • Youtube (I seriously spent an hour yesterday watching “sh*t ___ say” videos.)

WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA. See what I mean? I feel like with the exception of exercise and meeting up with friends, I am dating the Internet.

It’s awful too, not at all how I would want to be described to someone, “Internet-a-holic.”  I must find a way to regulate this love affair of mine with the Internet.

Do you restrict yourself online? Do you have Internet rules or guidelines? How can I change this?!? HELP ME???

  2. mllehazelwood answered: When you’re naturally busier, you’re on the internet less. As long as you don’t prefer it to friends, you’re good…right?
  3. karlaakins answered: It’s hard for me not to get on tumblr before I get my work done, but I avoid facebook as much as possible.
  4. carladawn answered: I’m married and I feel like I’m having an AFFAIR with the internets! I need to restrict myself, but alas, I can’t. I

  6. savannahjs answered: One thing I do, if you normally stay logged into sites like Twitter, FB, etc; just log out and when you come back to the site you’ll…
  7. barbsbiznatch answered: for every minute you are online you must also commit that much time to excercise or volunteering…or cleaning…or organizing…
  8. kristen-jane answered: Melbourne is wonderful! I live an hour out side of there but visit allllll the time. Have fun :)
  9. voyagebound answered: Find a job working in social media! Then you’ll be browsing AND making money at the same time. Or, just think of online time as ‘research’
  10. laughlaughtillyoucry answered: oh man, i am definitely in the same boat as you! always on the internet - reading blogs, emails, checking job postings, watching shows, etc!
  11. fromfattofinish answered: I spent an hour watching “sh*t ___ say” videos too!!
  12. xoxb answered: Rescue Time calculates how much time you spend on each site - sometimes seeing ‘4 hours on facebook’ is enough to get you off :)
  13. bikinisummer answered: Not relevant to your question, but did you see Shit Horseback Riders Say?! Super cute!!
  14. tryingtogetsmaller said: i try to limit what i can (personal use) to no more than 1 hr a day. and i usually multitask it. like while waiting in line.. like now
  15. passagesintime answered: Um, yeah. I am having a casual relationship with the internet. Similar to yours, but not as involved. What problem?! LOL!
  16. robownslife answered: I live on Tumblr and Facebook… true story. Why not be where you’re accepted most? Right? :)
  17. sarahinheels answered: I’m also addicted to the interwebs, partly because of you, but anyway… Really good books make nice distractions. :)
  18. just-for-2day answered: only during the day…at night i’m phone/computer free. it is nice!

  23. jodilyn said: google chrome has a nanny app that lets you block out certain sites at whatever hours of the day you want. i do this to remind myself to get off stupid sites and start doing the things that i claim i don’t have time to do! it helps.
  24. celenynotcelery answered: The internet is obviously a slut that likes to get around because I too am in love with it.
